It was an evening of fun and camaraderie, as batch mates converged in the CKSC conference room, to be part of the induction of the new sets of officers of Batch'82. As usual, the room was abuzz with hellos and how do you do's, everyone wanting to catch up with each other. The program was delayed and didn't start on time because everyone was waiting for the CKSCAA president and VP's, who will come to witness the induction. Upon their arrival, the program immediately started with VP Henry Wong as emcee of the evening. Our previous president, Ms. Bonnie Saw-Yu, delivered the opening remarks. She recalled her previous speeches delivered during the various functions she attended during the commemoration of our 25th anniversary. She reminded us her much applauded speech regarding our relationship as akin to that of husband and wife. She reiterated that the tie that binds us would only be broken by death. She also said that we should be proud to be a CKSC alumna and be proud that we are being looked up to by the lower batch.
Our inducting officer, CKSCAA President Wilson Go, didn't prepare any speech, which make his talk more endearing because it is impromptu and definitely sincere. He has known Ms. Bonnie Saw-Yu and Ms. Joyce Dy during their stint at the alumni association. He let out a secret, which he said might not be known to the majority of us. Our two batch mates are doing us proud by shelling out their hard earned money to donating to the needy thru the alumni association anonymously. The alumni association was puzzled where the funds are coming from and traced the donation to our two batch mates. What an honor to be acknowledged by the president himself. It really makes us proud to be a part of Batch '82. Pres. Wilson Go was also very grateful for the hospitality we've shown him. He was treated to a sumptuous meal courtesy of our b-day girl, Pres. Joyce Dy. Then, it's our president's turn to deliver her speech. She said that we are classmates not by coincidence but by divine will. Since it is fate that brought us together, the more that we should treasure this friendship because it surely has its purpose. Our path has crossed for a reason, so we should value it. She asked for the support and cooperation of everyone to make our batch activities a success.
A pleasant surprise of the night was the arrival of the members of the CKSC Boy Scout basketball team, of which our president is a supporter for several years now. They came to greet their benefactor and thank her for her generosity in helping out their club. It was then that the waiters brought in the cake and everybody sang their heart out in wishing our dearest president a very happy and peaceful natal day. We thought that's already the end of the celebration, but, voila! Our very generous president announced that she’d be raffling off a cellphone as a token of her appreciation for all the blessings god bestowed upon her. The lucky recipient of the cellphone is Ms. Shirley Sy of IV-5.Although everybody was happy for her, we can't help but hope that there should be more prizes so that more people will win the next time around. As they say "Paano naman Kami?"
Congratulations to the new sets of officers and more power!
